Discipleship Pastor
Location: Vine & Branch Fellowship – 3710 Whittle Rd, Angels Camp, CA 95222
Job Type: Full-Time
Annual Salary: $50,000–$60,000
The Discipleship Pastor at Vine & Branch Fellowship is a full-time shepherd who leads and implements the Vine & Branch Discipleship Path—a churchwide process to help people connect to Christ, grow in biblical maturity, engage in Christ-centered community, and live on mission. Discipleship is not reserved for the spiritual elite; it is everything we do to grow people in Christ. From new believers to seasoned saints, this role ensures that every step we take as a church points people toward abiding in Jesus and bearing lasting fruit (John 15:5).
- Loves Jesus Deeply: Evident through a consistent walk, prayer life, and love for God’s Word
- Grounded in Truth: Fully embraces the inerrancy, authority, and sufficiency of Scripture
- Spirit-Led: Depends daily on the Holy Spirit for guidance, power, and transformation
- Sound Doctrine: Able to guard and teach sound doctrine (Titus 1:9), correcting those who contradict it
- Fruitful Life: Demonstrates the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23) and a lifestyle worthy of imitation (1 Corinthians 11:1)
- Humble and Repentant: Acutely aware of their own sin, walking in repentance and grace (Luke 18:13–14)
- Truth in Love: Boldly and compassionately engages others about sin and redemption as Jesus did (John 4), pointing them toward restoration
1. ABIDE – Helping People Connect to Jesus Personally
- Lead efforts that promote personal Bible reading, prayer, and spiritual habits
- Equip new believers with resources and mentoring to begin strong in their faith
- Help people learn how to disciple others by first teaching them how to walk with Jesus
2. BELONG – Developing a Groups Ministry that Fosters Christ-Centered Community
- Oversee a thriving groups ministry—men’s, women’s, home groups, and topical Bible studies
- Equip and support group leaders to create environments of authenticity, accountability, and application
- Ensure all groups reflect biblical teaching, relational warmth, and intentional discipleship
3. GROW – Deepening Biblical Knowledge and Godly Character
- Launch and lead Bible studies, training tracks, and classes that grow the church in the Word
- Promote theological literacy and equip the church to defend the faith in today’s culture
- Recruit and disciple future leaders, teachers, and mentors in the church body
4. MULTIPLY – Empowering People to Serve and Lead
- Oversee the “New to Vine & Branch” pathway to help newcomers engage in service and groups
- Personally lead new people through the Vine & Branch Discipleship Path—from connecting, to growing, to serving—so they become fully devoted followers of Jesus
- Provide leadership training and mentoring tracks to prepare more disciple-makers
- Equip men, women, youth, and children to live sanctified lives in their families, workplaces, and communities
Youth & Children’s Ministry Oversight:
- Ensure oversight of the discipleship strategy for youth and children’s ministry
- Equip and support leaders for biblical, age-appropriate spiritual formation
Preaching and Teaching:
- Preach 6–8 times per year during Sunday worship services
- Teach and lead occasional adult classes, retreats, or seminars as needed
Counseling and Shepherding:
- Provide biblical counsel to individuals and families as needed
Note: Some of these goals may require vision-casting and support from the Servant Pastor and Elder Board for implementation.
- 65% of average Sunday worship attendance actively engaged in at least one group (If average attendance is 200, aim for 130–160 enrolled in groups. Current % status and timeline to be assessed with leadership upon hire.)
- Increase trained, qualified group leaders by 25% annually through development and mentoring
- Newcomer Integration:
- Develop a system that ensures new attendees are invited into relationships and the next steps
- Personally walk new people through the Vine & Branch Discipleship Path - Multiplication of Disciples: Trackable growth in the number of people discipling others
- Mentoring of Leaders (aspirational): While oversight of elders and staff may not fall within this role’s authority, the Discipleship Pastor will support a culture of mentorship among leaders in partnership with the Servant Pastor

- Missional and Evangelistic: Lives the Great Commission in both word and deed
- Organized and Strategic: Thinks ahead and implements sustainable systems
- Humble and Teachable: Open to feedback, eager to grow, and committed to unity
- Spiritual Maturity: Meets the biblical qualifications of an elder (1 Timothy 3, Titus 1)
- Calling Over Credentials: We value education but prioritize calling and proven fruitfulness over formal credentials.
- Education: A 4-year degree in Biblical Studies, Theology, or a related field is preferred but not required
- Experience: 3–5 years of ministry leadership, preferably in discipleship, groups, or next-gen ministry
- Skills: Strong communicator, relationally gifted, and administratively competent
- Character: Walks in holiness, models integrity, and lives a Christlike example
- Flexibility: Available to serve on weekends, evenings, and as pastoral needs arise
