Today, on Mother’s Day, I find myself reflecting on the most constant and powerful influence in my life—my mom, Holly. To the world, she is the principal of Libertas Academy, a leader who commands with wisdom, grace, and integrity. She’s a worship leader who leads people to encounter the Holy Spirit. But to me, she’s simply “Mama.”

Growing up, I watched my mom wear countless hats. She has been a school teacher, piano instructor, worship leader, Bible study leader, and (most recently) principal. She has led the school with excellence, yet always came home with the same level of care and attention for me. Whether it was late-night conversations when I needed advice, prayers when I was anxious, or the countless sacrifices she made that I didn’t even notice until later, I always knew I was deeply loved by my mom.

There’s a verse in Proverbs that perfectly describes her:

“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” — Proverbs 31:26 (ESV)

That’s my mom. Her wisdom has shaped my decisions, her kindness has taught me how to love others well, and her faith has rooted me in my love for Jesus. My mom is the kind of person who doesn’t ask for recognition, who selflessly gives until there’s nothing left to give, and who has trusted God through every season of her life. Amid the struggles of church hurt, divorce, and the messiness that family can be, she has remained faithful.

As I reflect on all my mom has done for me, I’m reminded that mothers everywhere carry this same quiet, unassuming role. From the very beginning, you are the first place that we feel safe, and the first experience we have with human love. To all the moms out there: thank you. Thank you for your tireless work and for the vital role you play in the lives of those you raise and love.

And to my mom, thank you. Thank you for not just what you have done for me, but for who you are. You have certainly shaped me with your words, but (most importantly) you have shaped me by leading by example. You are living proof of the power and influence of a faithful, God-honoring mother.

Today I rise up and call my mom blessed, just like all those who have been blessed by their moms will do on Mothers Day. Thank you mom, for your love and for the impact you have made in my life. I hope one day to also be able to teach with kindness and pass on the wisdom you have given me.

Happy Mother’s Day! See you all on Sunday at 9:00 & 11:00 AM
