Do you like to fly, or are you a person who gets anxious? The simple fact is this huge tube with wings should not fly like the birds we all see every day. Anyone who has a fear of flying I can sympathize with. Carah gets a small amount of fear, but mostly when the plane takes off. Once the plane is in the air, she completely relaxes.

I had an uncle who was a world-renowned chemist specializing in Inorganic Chemistry. He flew worldwide in the 70’s and always told me as a kid to always leave my seat belt on. He would always tell me stories of extreme turbulence and how anyone flying without a seatbelt would be jammed into the plane’s ceiling with no warning.

All of us can remember a time when we were on vacation, and the captain came on and informed us that we had some turbulence ahead and that we should all return to our seats and put on our seatbelts. This is why my uncle would tell us never to wait for the captain’s warning but to always fly with the belt on because turbulence will often only be detected after it hits. He would even suggest fastening the belt but loosening it a few inches for comfort and keeping the safety the belt offers.

This week, in 1 Timothy 4, Paul warns Timothy about false teachers. Like with turbulence, we can never know where this false teaching will come from. Most likely, we will get no warning when they are near. Paul is just like a good pilot who warns his passengers ahead of time. Paul is warning Timothy and us always to wear the Belt of Truth.

This Sunday, will you join us as we discuss 1 Timothy 4 and have communion? Also, remember that the first Sunday of the month is our Potluck after church. Will you bring a dish to share? I am excited to see you all and hear all that the Lord Jesus is doing in and through each of you. See you at 9:30 on Sunday
